As part of the implementation of the MANTRA project, African Network for Environmental and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) has launched a campaign on ‘Corruption Must Not Pay’.
The campaign is aimed at sending strong message to corrupt officials and their collaborators that those who engage in corruption will be brought to book.
ANEEJ Executive Director, David Ugolor, in his speech said that, “From 1970 till date, the issue of corruption is visible in all government and recently Nigerians have realized that the money recovered from corruption has not been utilized properly.
“In tackling corruption the key challenge is how to build alliance and movement and see how we can mainstream corruption issues in the up coming election campaign.”
He encouraged organizations to look for specific actions that can resonate with citizens in campaign in their various states.
The pioneer chairman of Bayelsa NGOs’ Forum, Philip Slabor, said the campaign was timely and should be taken to every part of the country.
Hon. Victoria Potoki, Ijaw Women Leader, pointed out that corruption is rooted in our system and we must go back to our families if we must to fight it.
Former Chairman, NLC Edo State, Comrade Kaduna Eboigbodun, said the campaign should be taken seriously and organizations should endeavour to promote it.
