Please join us on Tuesday, April 23 at 10:30 am ET to listen to the Executive Director and Chairman of the National Whistleblower Center – Siri Nelson and Stephen Kohn – as they discuss the significance of creating a whistleblower program in the Department of Justice. This program could enable whistleblowers worldwide to further expose corruption and wrongdoings, but it will only succeed if best practices are followed and if the experiences of international whistleblowers are taken into consideration.
The new program has been designed to concentrate on whistleblower rewards in asset forfeiture cases, to close loopholes in current protections. These changes can have a significant impact on fighting corruption by targeting the assets of bad actors. The upcoming webinar will not only educate about the potential scope and impact of the new program but will also discuss the best practices that should be incorporated, and will talk about the NWC’s ongoing campaign to ensure that the new program serves the interest of whistleblowers.
In March 2024, the U.S. Deputy Attorney General announced that the Department of Justice (DOJ) was going to establish a whistleblower rewards program. The DOJ has initiated a “90-day policy sprint” to determine the specific policies that will govern this new program.
We must urge the DOJ to model its program off the Dodd-Frank Act’s programs at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). In announcing the DOJ program, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco stated that these programs “have proven indispensable” and together we must argue that they provide a clear model for an effective whistleblower award program.
The National Whistleblower Center has drafted a sign-on letter and is encouraging members of the international anti-corruption community to sign. This letter will demonstrate how important best-practice whistleblower programs are to the international anti-corruption community. Join our webinar on Tuesday, April 23 to learn more and ask questions!
